Childcare Services Feedback
Your feedback matters. It helps us improve and shape the future of Childcare Services.
Thanks to your input so far, we have been making changes and planning new developments to the service.
Here’s what’s happening right now:
University Holiday Provision
- You said: The current venue at Trumpington Meadows is inconvenient for many families; a second site would help.
We piloted a Multi Sports Camp at West Cambridge Sports Centre over summer 2025 to improve access on the west side of the city. This was very successful and will continue to run throughout 2026 in selected school holidays. This summer (2026) we launched a trial series with museums across Cambridge.
- You said: The offer for older children (11–15) doesn’t meet their needs; interest is low.
We have refocused the age range for University of Cambridge Holiday Playscheme to Reception–12 years and are designing a tailored signposting website for young people aged 12+.
University Workplace Nurseries
- You said: Nursery quality is strong, but location and flexibility are different - many families want options closer to home or with term-time models.
We are exploring the current workplace nursery offer and ways that we can improve this going forward.
- You said: Not everyone can access childcare benefits (e.g. due to immigration or student status) and support should be more equitable.
We are assessing ways to broaden access to benefits and signposting to national schemes like Tax-Free Childcare; updating web content to make eligibility clear.
Information, Visibility & Parent Support
- You said: Awareness of the Childcare Services is uneven; some webpages are hard to navigate and information varies across departments.
We have updated the website with a focus on clearer navigation, up-to-date content, and easy access to practical guides.
- You said: You want targeted groups and peer support - especially for solo parents and families with SEND.
Earlier this year (2026) we relaunched the university-wide parent network and have created parenting programmes and webinars
- You said: Social media feels busy and hard to engage with; clearer Childcare Services posts and photos from activities would help.
We are refreshing our social media and general communication approach to ensure that appropriate information is regular but clear.
Access & Inclusivity
- You said: You value inclusive services and need consistent SEND support across holidays and nurseries.
We have implemented a targeted SEND fund which our workplace nurseries and holiday provision can access for supporting children with additional needs.
- You said: Clearer signposting to local offers (wraparound and holiday clubs) would save time and reduce stress.
We have enhanced our signposting information on the website to make it easier to find help for school admissions, housing and health.
