Navigating Leave within the University
This page helps you understand the types of leave available and outlines the early conversations you should have with your manager.
Talking with your manager
Open and early communication with your manager is an essential part of planning for parental leave. These discussions help ensure you understand your entitlements and that your department can plan effectively.
What to discuss
Your initial conversation may cover:
- Your expected due date
- Your preferred leave start date
- The types of leave you may be eligible for (maternity, paternity/co‑parent, shared parental, adoption, parental leave)
- Whether you wish to use KIT/SPLIT days
- Any health & safety considerations, including risk assessments
- Cover arrangements for your role while you are away
- How often you’d like to keep in touch during your leave
See our University Leave Policies page for more information on options available.
