Early Years Funding

Early Years Funding (EYF) is a national scheme that funds part-time education for all 3 and 4-year-olds from the school term after they turn 3, and for eligible 2-year-olds from the school term after they turn 2.

Your child is eligible as follows:

Children born between:  May become eligible for 2-year-old funding Become eligible for 3 and 4-year-old funding
1 January - 31 March 1 April after their 2nd birthday 1 April after their 3rd  birthday
1 April - 31 August 1 September after their 2nd birthday 1 September after their 3rd birthday
1 September - 31 December 1 January after their 2nd birthday 1 January after their 3rd birthday

Your nursery will discuss the EYF with you and will help you to identify how many sessions you are able to take.

There are three types of Early Years Funding:

  • The universal entitlement is 15 hours per week for all 3 and 4-year-olds.  This is applied for through the nursery.
  • The extended entitlement (30 hours) is an additional 15 hours for eligible working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds.   To find out if you are eligible for the extended entitlement, click here.
  • The expanded entitlement (15 hours) is an additional 15 hours for eligible working parents of 2-year-olds.  To find out if you are eligible for the expanded entitlement, click here.

There is further information on EYF available on the Cambridgeshire County Council website.

For those using the Workplace Nurseries Salary Exchange Scheme it is your responsibility to make the necessary changes to your salary exchange arrangement. If you require further information, please contact childcareservices@admin.cam.ac.uk
