There are various types of childcare available in the Cambridge area outside of the University and Colleges. This has been separated out into under 5's and school age children with the intention of making it easier to review.
- The Family Information Service (operating within the Cambridgeshire County Council) maintains the Online Directory: Childcare which includes information on childcare and early learning providers as well as support services for families.
- There are a number of websites which aim to assist families with finding suitable childcare. As well as listing provisions, there are also helpful tips on what to look for when considering a facility. The sites include the The Family and Daycare Trust, Childcare.co.uk, Yoopies and Babysits.
- Accessing the inspection reports from OFSTED can also be useful.
The University does not endorse or recommend any external childcare or babysitting services but are providing details to assist parents.
Emergency Childcare
Requiring emergency childcare can, unfortunately, be a reality of life. There are a number of reasons why this might be the case, including a childminder/nanny being ill.
There are services available which can help in this situation, however it is likely that there will a cost to access them.
There are companies such as Emergency Childcare.
We do not recommend particular childcare providers, only give information about where to look for them.
Please register on their website to access emergency nannies, nurseries, childminders and holiday club places.
Back up care for adult dependants can be booked directly by staff through www.helpinghandshomecare.co.uk
